Journalism: if you haven't got it, don't flaunt it

Today I accepted an invitation to join a Facebook group in defense of irregular verbs. That's not all I did; I also went to the library, went to the town treasury to pay my trash collection bill, finished reading a book by Haruki Murakami, did a load of laundry, wrote a couple of e-notes, and more. But, back to the defense of irregular verbs: how about "She had bade a tearful goodbye..." in the second paragraph of A nursing home death, and a shocking phone call "in the Los Angeles Times? Right. And had she went to what used to was a ... whatever? "if you haven't got it, don't flaunt it"

Creationist Food Technology

From A New Taste Sensation, By KATY MCLAUGHLIN, Wall Street Journal Online (December 8, 2007):
scientists now widely believe that the body was designed to recognize glutamate, says Gary Beauchamp, director of the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia


Or is it creationist journalism? The lack of quotation marks on the attributed view leaves ambiguity as to who chose the formulation "the body was designed." To how much of this subtle propaganda must we accept to be exposed?
